In order to start a blog I had to
figure out which blog to sign up for. I figure that it would be nice to explain some thoughts that are
going through my mind as I prepare for my trip. Because I am in Jefferson City,
I cannot pack and I have to rely on a list. Truthfully, I know packing will get
done, but I do not know how! I am just telling myself not to stress. Anyhow, I
am very excited for the trip and need to be as productive in Jefferson City as
possible because I only have a week. I wanted to get my hair braided, but
decided against it because I want the traditional braids when we get to
Eritrea. I am thinking maybe two times while I’m there. Below, is a picture of
the traditional braided style.
Also, I showed Kayle Injera today! At least, I am familiar
with the traditional food in Eritrea. Thank you, dad! Lol J I
have had Injera since childhood, so I
feel the food will not be of any shock to me. Now, I hear the food is organic
and not processed (as we are use to in America), but I am making sure I am
prepared. I have to take medicine with me, just in case…I’m sure you can figure
out why I need to be “prepared!” But, I know I will eat other traditional foods
while I am in Eritrea. The travel nurse at the clinic informed me not to eat
any fruit that I do not peel myself. I heard the same piece of advice from
Dusty (coworker), so I am pretty sure I should stay away from fruit! Also, I
was told to stay away from cold food, soooo probably no salad! Hopefully, I can
eat healthy. But, I hear I will walk a lot, so I will not worry about the
eating part! Haha!
Here is a picture of Injera:
I had Injera in Rwanda and loved it!! This is so exciting :) So proud of you and have so much fun!

Thank you Brittany! I am happy you like Injera, it is awesome! I think everyone should try it. Did you document your trip? Also, thank you for visiting my blog, I cannot wait to take and post pictures.
ReplyDeleteHello my friend! I would like to say I enjoyed spending time giving you the tour of LU campus here in Jefferson City before you headed out on your amazing adventure to Injera. Moreover, I don't want you to stress before you take flight. If you need anything, anything at all and I can be a help just let me know, I'm not not far Yet! I wish you all the luck in the world. I will say enjoy the experience now that you are of age to understand. Gain as much knowledge as possible so that you may share this amazing trip in great detail (w/me). However, Because I always thought people should remember the last thing you say to them. I mean we will see each other again probably, but what can I say? Not just "Good luck and goodbye or see you later" Something that I remember you said while on my campus during the tour is, "Gaining knowledge is the key". Somewhat around those lines lol. Abraham have a safe and enjoyable trip. Cheers.:)I'll miss you.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! I thought that was you with braids in the picture above. How's Eritrea so far? Sorry it has taken me so long to visit your blog. Anyway, I hope your trip has been enjoyable thus far. Take care!... Where are my pics? Joe :-)
ReplyDeleteJoe! I am thinking about getting braids, but I haven't decided for sure yet. The internet connection here is soooo slow and it is not easy to get a seat in the cafe. I do not think I will be able to post updates or pics. When I get home I might use the blog to post pics and share my experience. Eritrea is good, I will have to call you when I get home and try to give you the highlights. I did meet my grandparents and we visited their village for a day. 2 1/2 weeks left! Thanks for checking up!
ReplyDeleteTo everyone that has visited my blog for updates: The internet in Eritrea is slow and the connection to certain websites is not possible depending on the day. I cannot add post or pictures, so I will try to reinvent my experience when I get home with pictures and comments. Thank you for keeping up with the trip! :)
ReplyDeleteHow was it in Eritrea on May 24? I read that day commemorates the country's 1993 declaration of independence from Ethiopia. Also what ethnicity is your family considered in Eritrea? I look forward to the pictures. Speaking of pictures I see a little "copyright infringement" on that profile picture of you at the beach. :)
